CNCF Announces Cloud Native Ambassadors 2.0 Program

Cloud Native Ambassadors are emissaries of CNCF’s mission statement to push cloud native technologies in an open-source environment.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) has announced the Cloud Native Ambassadors 2.0 program, an upgraded version of the inaugural program first launched in 2016.

Cloud Native Ambassadors are emissaries of CNCF’s mission statement to push cloud native technologies in an open-source environment. With access to CNCF resources, these ambassadors engage with the wider cloud community with events, content, and mentoring, alongside fostering collaboration on cloud native projects.

Through this ambassador program, cloud experts receive access to CNCF’s large community and are able to provide expertise to the community. CNCF will also contribute to support, training, and funding for events and community meetings, alongside discount codes to CNCF events.

CNCF has quickly become the lead voice for open-source, cloud native technologies, and is most well known for maintaining the open-source container orchestration system Kubernetes. It has graduated many other projects such as Jaeger, Linkerd, and OpenTelemetry.

With the Cloud Native Ambassadors 2.0, CNCF has provided more clarity on the role of an Ambassador and what can be expected of one, which includes being an active member of the CNCF community, either as an active contributor to a CNCF project, a current SIG or TAG member, or an active leader in the community with one year experience organizing events or creating content.

CNCF has also created an Ambassador Standards of Excellence commitment, which ambassadors must sign. These include being kind and inclusive to others, acting in a professional manner, ensuring that disagreements and feedback is handled respectfully, and to promote the CNCF brand online and in person.

For those looking to apply, CNCF has an application form on its website. Spring applications are open until February 26, 2023 with successful applicants announced at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon EU 2023 on April 19. For fall applications, these open at an unspecified time in July 2023, with applications closing in September 2023. The ambassador program will run for 12 months, ending in March 2024.
